APPRENTICESHIP - ELECTRICAL

IBEW Local 164 offers a five-year apprenticeship training program that is administered jointly with the Bergen-Essex-Hudson Division of the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA). The program has been designed to enable each apprentice to:

  • AC/DC Theory
  • Conduit Fabrication
  • Blueprint Reading
  • National Electric Code
  • OSHA 10/30
  • Transformers
  • Grounding and Bonding
  • Healthcare Systems
  • Fire Alarm Systems
  • Lightning Protection Systems
  • Riggging and Hoisting
  • Solar Photovoltaic Systems
  • Introduction to Digital Electronics
  • Instrumentation
  • Motors
  • Motor Control Systems
  • Security Systems
  • Lighting Systems
  • Programmable Logic Control Systems

Electrical apprentices in Local 164 attend school during the day on a full time, paid basis, with instruction provided by a staff of full time paid professional instructors. To achieve Journeyman status, all five years must be successfully completed, as well as satisfactory performance on the rigorous final apprenticeship examination.
